What we’re thinking

Long-distance coaching with UN leaders

We’re privileged this week to have been invited to participate in an Annual Retreat with 40+ senior United Nations leaders in Montreux, Switzerland. The UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), led by former UK Government Cabinet Minister, Baroness Valerie Amos, plays a leading role around the world in the most challenging humanitarian situations.

A year ago, Andrew was appointed to a small team of experienced coaches which is providing coaching support, via Skype, to OCHA Representatives in their bases in different continents. Less than 5 years ago, this long distance coaching wouldn’t have been possible, but as connectivity has improved, Skype style technology offers a great medium to be able to establish supportive long-distance coaching relationships with leaders tackling critical issues.

The gathering of Humanitarian Coordinators this week offers the chance for the coaching team to gain a deeper understanding of some of the challenges being faced.
