Do you bring your unique dance to the work you do?
I’m sure there are plenty of good reasons why ‘Private Pirouette’ shouldn’t have brought his own unique dancing style to the challenge of guarding Buckingham Palace. And it seems to have landed him in deep trouble with his superiors. But I must confess to a nagging admiration for his mischievous courage in challenging the system and bringing a bit of sparkle to his working day. And to the day of many many others. As far as I’m aware nobody was harmed. The youtube clip has received nearly 2.5 million hits and probably as many smiles. And it got me thinking about the extent to which we push the boundaries and bring ourselves to work. How do we use our own unique qualities to add sparkle to our day? Or do we play it safe and therefore fail to have our maximum impact? In our coaching and leadership work a common conversation revolves around the boundaries at work which often prevent full impact. Sometimes those boundaries are imposed on us. But often we place them on ourselves without really recognising it. So, what’s the pirouetting equivalent for you that would add extra impact to your day?!
